- about
- "You'll never starve," she said. Do you remember the teacher from those Charlie Brown specials that just made noises and you couldn't understand what she was saying? That was what it was like for me as a I sat in a small office on my last day working in what most people call a normal job. Until that point, the person questioning me about why I was leaving only came across as audible noises in my head, but then she said those three words. My attention snapped back to the moment as she told her story about moving to New York to pursue theater and dancing. Her eyes were starting to water as she went into detail about what she did to make this chance happen. After she told me about her journey she repeated her encouragement, "You'll never starve."
That was the day I jumped into the unknown. I walked out of my office with a sense of freedom and a sense of fear. I'm sure these mixed emotions were similar to how early explorers felt when heading off into uncharted territories, just to see what was out there. It's often the curiosity of what might be out there that leads us, and often the dream isn't so much a final place but rather a pursuit that drives us into the unknown. What the thrill of the hunt is to a hunter, the interstates, quiet cafes, smokey bars, and restless nights are to the performing musician. In many ways, the dream is the pursuit and this pursuit is strengthened and tested along the way. Whether it be pacing around parks in the middle of the night trying to figure out how to pay your bills or showing up to a show only to discover that it's been canceled, the journey is tested and strengthened bit by bit. The journey isn't easy. It never will be and never should be. Just remember though: You'll never starve.
Now here I am a year and a half after the jump - still alive, still moving, and still dreaming. I've seen amazing things across this great nation and enjoyed many great cups of coffee to revive my sense en route to the next show. I can say without a doubt that the difficult times and struggles during this pursuit are two of the most important forces behind this album. The October Sky was written during and about those restless nights, and hopefully, these songs will be more than just rhythm and melody spinning around on a digital medium but rather, rhythm and melody spinning in your head and heart during those moments of uncertainty. So here's to the coffee that keeps me awake, the hard times that keep me writing, and the lady that told me I'd never starve. - Jon

- Track Name: My Days Are Numbered
-
The hands of time just pass us by
and we piss away our chance at life
it's a sweet, sweet dance
but we just watch
we're caught up in the formula
that wealth is power and sex is love
it's a lie from hell
and we jump in
My days are numbered
My days are numbered
My days are numbered
Numbered.
A dream just like a fairy tale
with and autumn breeze and a spring-like smell
but we're trapped behind the window
and we're looking out
We live our lives in ignorant bliss
the life we want we were meant to live
but hope is a distant fading light
My days are numbered
My days are numbered
My days are numbered
Numbered.
My days are numbered
My days are numbered
My days are numbered
Numbered.
- Track Name: Pills To Help Me Sleep
-
I've got pills to help me sleep
that I rarely take
they're meant to put my mind at rest
but I waste away the day
I need some sleep
A reminder of your love
to help me believe
the things that you've done
for me, for me, for me
I've got enemies inside
that I try to fight
they tear about my confidence
and they terrorize my mind
I need some sleep
A reminder of your love
to help me believe
the things that you've done
for me, for me, for me
for me, for me, for me
I don't want to live this way anymore
No, I don't want to live this way anymore
No, I don't want to live this way anymore
in fear, it's fear, it's only fear
in fear, it's fear, it's only fear
I've got pills to help me sleep
sirens on the shelf
a cylinder that sings to me
when I'm lying to myself
I need some sleep
A reminder of your love
to help me believe
the things that you've done
for me, for me, for me
